    Ponchatoula is “Strawberry Capital of the World”. Our delicious strawberries are available from November to April. Strawberry farmers past and present have been honored with the “Strawberry Farmer Wall of Fame” located in front of city hall. In 2001 the Louisiana Legislature selected the strawberry as the state fruit. Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival is held in April of every year and is the second largest festival in the state. Ponchatoula Party in the Pits Starts: Saturday, October 16, 2010 @ 11:00AM CSTEnds: Saturday, October 16, 2010 @ 6:00PM CSTLocation: Downtown PonchatoulaIt's the 3rd Annual "Party in the Pits" sponsored by the Ponchatoula Chamber of Commerce, Whitney Bank, PON Food, Regions Bank, and Star Equipment. We're closing down the streets and opening up the town for BBQ! Cooking begins early. All other events open 11am. till 6p.m. Over 35 teams, including professional and local, will compete for $5000.00 in cash and prizes. This year, Ponchatoula was chosen as the "Money added event". More cash payout to IBCA members. BBQ, beverages and other items will be available for purchase. Live music. Come downtown for the day where you'll find speciality stores, antique shops, dress shops, homemade jams and crafts, and more. We can also pamper you with our great spas & salons offering the works including manicures, pedicures, facials, and more. |
