Tallest Flag Pole on the eastside of the Mississippi!
40X70 Foot Flag (Largest in the USA)
The first flag pole was installed at this location in 1985 by the Ponchatoula Jaycees.
The Ponchatoula Minutemen formed at this time and took over the maintenance of the flag through their organization.
Dues of $25 is collected annually from those interested in joining the organization.
Donations cover the purchase and maintenance of the flags, the poles, the lighting and anything related to the flag.
The annual flag raising takes place on the 4th of July at 8:00 am in front of the Country Market and behind the gator cage.
Ponchatoula boasts the largest pole-supported American flag (40 x 70 ft) flying 177 feet high on the tallest pole this side of the Mississippi River. The remainder of the year the Minutemen fly a 20 x 30 ft. flag. They estimate they use about 4 flags per year.
